In her own words ...
At Ascentium we have several discussion aliases for Ascentium employees with different interests. Debate This, Cool Stuff, Boating, & Visual Artists are just a few. These aliases help gather people with similar interests to discuss and occasionally get together for activities outside of work.
Ascentium is very big on Employee Quality of Life. As a part of that, we are encouraged to get to know the people we work with day in and day out and to make connections between our personal and professional lives.
I’ve experienced this everywhere I have worked in the software industry, and I’m sure many others have too. Finding a company we love and connecting with the people we work with becomes very important for our quality of life overall.
“Ascentium Gamers” and “Natural 20” are two of the e-mail aliases we have. “Ascentium Gamers” is great for talking about new up-and-coming games or the best new platforms, game engines, hardware, etc. “Natural 20” is more rubber meets the road. We use it to plan gaming sessions, post stats, and research the next game the group is interested in playing together.
From a few avid players and a few casual ones on the discussion aliases, we’ve formed a guild on the massively multiplayer game World of Warcraft. We also have a pen-and-paper role-playing classic game (D&D) running every other Monday night for interested Bellevue-based Ascentiumites.
As an Ascentium employee with many interests, I heartily encourage current and future coworkers here to find a place in aliases, events, or event planning that works for you. If we don’t have an alias or event already, organize one that interests you.
